It’s a commonly taught principle that  ‘the more you learn, the more you earn’.

It’s true isn’t it? The more you know about sales, budgeting, negotiations, marketing and so on the more money you can make in business right?

Well, maybe.

At your fingertips, you currently have access to over 191 million pieces of information relating to the topic of ‘setting goals’ alone, with 31.2 million of those being videos on YouTube. That’s more than 1.56 million hours of video, just relating to the Google search term ‘setting goals’!  Aside from the fact it would take you 178 years to watch, chances are you’d actually be more overwhelmed with information and even less likely to be able to move forward as a result.

When working with my clients, I repeatedly find that someone who is ‘stuck’ doesn’t need more information, tools, tips, or ideas.

What they need is more clarity.

From clarity comes decisions and decisions lead to more actions.  Most of us just need to get clear on the areas we want to improve or change in our lives and then, perhaps more importantly what we need to do to achieve those outcomes.

Try this exercise right now.  Across the top of your page, write down 3 key areas of your life (or property portfolio!) that you want to improve. It could be your health, relationships, rental yields and so on.  Go ahead, write down 3 you want to improve.  Now, underneath each of those write down 3 decisions or actionable changes you know you need to make in order to get the improvement you desire.  For example, one of your areas could be ‘health’. The 3 decisions or changes you need to make to improve your health could be something as simple as ‘stop drinking alcohol during the week; cut out carbs; go for a 30 minute walk 3 times a week.’

ToDoList

Now that you’ve decided what needs to be done or what changes to make, the only thing left is to go do it.  No excuses.  Almost all the people I’ve worked with already have the knowledge required to make 80% of the changes they wanted in their lives.  They were just caught sitting on the fence, trying to decide which way to jump or worse still, coming up with reasons why they couldn’t.Notice anything? Looks like a simple action list doesn’t it? You now have 9 steps to making change in your life and you didn’t have to read a single book to come up with it.

Jim Rohn, one of the world’s great entrepreneurs and educators said it beautifully, “It doesn’t matter which side of the fence you get off on sometimes. What matters most is getting off. You cannot make progress without making decisions.”
